What do you really need to bring to the gym? General tips on what to pack in your bag to start this new adventure without fears

Have you also decided, like Bridget Jones, that September is the month of renewal? For Bridget, joining a gym represents much more than just an attempt to lose weight. It's a symbol of a deeper change, a desire to take control of her life and become a better person. By now, we know that going to the gym isn't the only solution for starting fresh, and we shouldn't feel obligated to do it. However, avoiding a sedentary lifestyle and getting moving again can certainly help give us an extra boost. So, if you want to start this journey and avoid repeating Bridget's clumsy attempts at managing her awkward interactions with other gym-goers, don't get caught unprepared

What to pack in your gym bag

A true fitness-girl starts by packing a well-prepared gym bag. Deciding what to bring isn’t that easy, especially if it’s your first time. Here’s a guide to the must-haves that you can’t go without in your workout bag. First up is the water bottle, which will quickly become your most loyal companion, so choose it carefully. Then there are the towels, essential for wiping away sweat or cleaning equipment before exercising. Good music can completely transform your workout, so don’t forget to bring some Bluetooth earbuds or over-ear headphones. If you're working with heavy equipment, we recommend bringing gloves to prevent those unpleasant calluses. For maximum comfort, never forget hair ties and headbands; they’ll be your best allies in battling heat and sweat. Many people also opt to bring specific equipment from home, like small weights or resistance bands for total body exercises. We recommend consulting the gym staff to find out which tools to bring, as they will vary depending on the training plan you choose. Lastly, but no less important, is a smartwatch to track time, heart rate, or steps taken.

And if you want to stick around after your workout?

There are two types of people at the gym: those who dash home a minute after finishing their workout, and those who choose to shower and do their skincare routine right in the locker room. If you're in the second group, you'll need: a soft-bristle brush for detangling wet hair, a microfiber robe (it dries faster and takes up less space), a bag for dirty clothes, a change of clothes (we recommend a hoodie to avoid the temperature drop when you leave the gym), a pair of flip-flops or rubber sandals, deodorant, tissues and sanitary pads, a toiletry bag with mini-size products for your skincare, conditioner, shampoo, and shower gel. The more daring ones may also bring along straighteners, hairspray, makeup, toothpaste, and a toothbrush.
