How should we feel about Taylor Mega?
A reflection on the beauty queen of the last episode of Belve
December 17th, 2024
Taylor Mega has returned to our TV screens and back on our radar, perhaps partly thanks to the feud between Tony Effe and Fedez. The creator, who was previously in a relationship with the former, was referenced in the songs the two used to attack each other and was later photographed with the latter, sparking countless rumors about a possible romance. Not only that: she even appeared in the music video for Federico Lucia’s diss track (titled L'infanzia difficile di un benestante), responding to her ex-boyfriend with the widely shared and commented-on phrase: "Eri tu la mia bitch!" Now, she is ready to officially tell her side of the story.
Taylor Mega and Fedez: What Happened? The Interview on Belve
Possibly seizing the spotlight like a true marketing queen, Taylor Mega is a guest on Belve, the highly followed talk show known for its provocative interviews hosted by Francesca Fagnani. The first clips, shared on social media, immediately drew immense attention, with users rushing to comment and likely now glued to their screens, eager to learn more. As always, the host and journalist got straight to the point, asking why she participated in the song, whether her romance with Fedez occurred while he was still married, and who was the better singer between the two. Taylor answered the first two questions without hesitation ("I had to get some things off my chest" and "everyone was already doing their own thing") but remained mysteriously reserved on the third, which seemed the easiest to address. So, what’s the verdict?
As Usual, Misogyny Takes the Stage
We’ve already discussed how these rapper feuds often become a pretext and a vehicle for dragging the women in their lives into the spotlight, wielded as weapons and treated misogynistically in both words and actions. Why do Fedez and Tony Effe feel the need to bring up their past relationships to insult one another? This happened between Drake and Kendrick Lamar as well, where they accused each other of far worse, yet the public was more focused on picking a winner than considering the women involved. But in Taylor Mega’s case, is she a participant or a victim? As always, it’s not so simple.
Taylor Mega: Patriarchy's Handmaid or Victim?
From one perspective, it might seem that Taylor Mega is using misogyny and patriarchy to her advantage, aligning herself with the narrative of the men (or one man, Fedez) while ignoring other unflattering references about her female “colleagues.” This is true, but there’s more to the story. Even if Taylor Mega adopts the role of patriarchy’s handmaid, effectively aiding Fedez and Tony Effe in their narrative using the tools granted to her—beauty and audacity—to assert herself, she remains a victim of the very same system. Her strategy does not protect her from derogatory comments, misogynistic insults, or the mechanisms she attempts to manipulate for her gain. So, who truly wins in the end?
