FKA twigs is everywhere
From music to fashion, British artist shows her eclectic talent
January 23rd, 2025
From the baroque Magdalene to the eclectic Caprisongs, chances are you have heard of English singer, dancer, and songwriter FKA twigs. Known for her versatile music that incorporates electronic, pop, R&B, and hip-hop styles, the musician has created a genre of her own – as well as a unique career.
Whether it was kissing model Cara Delevingne while performing at Vogue World 2023 in London, her recent video for Eusexua with a choreography that caused an online frenzy, or starring in Rupert Sanders' remake of the ‘90s classic The Crow alongside actor Bill Skarsgård, FKA twigs is proving to be a multifaceted artist through and through.
FKA twigs' style: daring, experimentation and provocation
Not only is she an avant-garde pop phenomenon, but she's also a bona fide fashion icon. Seen everywhere from the British Fashion Awards to multiple magazine covers, twigs is no stranger to fashion. Known for her eerie and risky style and many edgy red carpet looks, the singer has cemented herself as an innovative and daring fashionista.
Case in point: while attending editor Edward Enninful's birthday party in 2023, the singer embraced a macabre mood, pairing a beige sweater, an almond silk skirt, chunky dull brown platforms, a voluminous cream suede coat with fur details on the interior and around the trims, and horns as accessories.
But she doesn't just opt for the sinister to make a fashion statement. In 2024, during the promotion of the film The Crow, the chosen look had a sci-fi vibe, incorporating facial art patterns and a brand-new hairstyle: her hair shaved on the front and curls or dreads on the back – a combination that left the fashion world in awe.
Valentino's muse and beyond
Still, her risqué style has not only captivated fashion fans everywhere, but also industry professionals like Italian designer Pierpaolo Piccioli. His muse since 2020, the dancer has been a familiar face at many Valentino shows during his creative tenure. For the Spring/Summer 2024 collection, Twigs even theatrically performed a new track from her upcoming album in a sand scenario in the center of the runway. But ultimately, she's not just a Valentino girl.
Frequently seen at other fashion shows such as Burberry and Chanel – and sometimes even making cameo appearances as a model like at Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2023 and Vogue World 2024 in Paris, where she walked on a black Alexandre Vaulthier dress – FKA twigs is truly a fashion-forward girl. She shows it – and not just by attending fashion events, appearing on magazine covers, and modeling high-end clothes.
The singer is also an avid collector of vintage clothing. When she attended the 2019 Sundance Film Festival, for example, she opted for a mix of vintage: Vivienne Westwood's iconic François Boucher corset, a green tiger-striped Jean Paul Gaultier coat, and an extravagant Christian Lacroix necklace. Edgy and retro. For the 2020 NME Awards, the dancer wore an archival striped coat and thin blouse by Jean Paul Gaultier, paired with a fuzzy green hat by Benny Andallo.
An ever-evolving icon
In the end, no matter the day, no matter the event, FKA twigs never fails to impress when it comes to her art – whether it's music and performance, fashion, cinema or a combination of all of the above.
