Ideas for a Valentine's Day with girlfriends
How to celebrate Valentine's Day with your besties
February 12th, 2025
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and you don’t need to be in a relationship to celebrate. Sometimes, you don’t need a partner—just a few single friends and the desire to have fun and do something together. Of course, you don’t need February 14th as an excuse to spend time with your besties, but if you don’t have a special someone to go out for dinner with or do the usual Valentine’s Day activities, call your best friends instead. Love comes and goes, but friends are forever, right? So, what should you do once you’re all together? We know it can be tricky, especially with a big group or a million work and personal commitments in the way. That’s why we’ve put together some fun ideas to spend Valentine’s Day with the people who truly care about your love life—the ones who will stop you from falling for the first red flag that gives you heart eyes (but hey, that’s what friends are for, even if you won’t listen to their advice and will dive straight into trouble… only to complain about it to them later).
How to spend Valentine's Day with our best friends?
Book Club Night
Pick a book (it doesn’t have to be romantic), set up a mini snack bar with chips, cookies, and drinks, and find a comfy spot in your living room. Let the reading marathon begin! Each of you can choose a different book, and the best part is commenting out loud on shocking scenes or laughing when someone jumps at a thriller’s twist. Books bring people together, even if just for a few hours. Remember to drink and eat; sometimes reading can be quite immersive.
Visit an Art Exhibit
If you’re in the mood to go out but refuse to hang out in bars packed with couples, you could visit an exhibition in your city. Whether it’s an art gallery or a natural history museum, you can explore the exhibition halls and make Valentine’s Day both an educational and fun experience. First, do a quick survey among yourselves to figure out what topics interest you the most, then a brief online search will do the trick. We recommend making sure to book tickets for the right date, and above all, take lots of photos (where allowed, of course). You’ll spend February 14th immersed in culture—what more could you ask for?
DIY Craft Night
If you're a particularly creative group and love DIY projects, the internet (and beyond) is full of ideas to turn even a piece of paper into a masterpiece. If your group loves creative activities, why not spend the night crafting? You don’t need to be Picasso to create something fun. Try painting, decorating phone cases, making pottery, or even origami. If you don’t want to clean up a mess at home, look for DIY workshops in your area. And if all else fails, there are always YouTube tutorials, right? You can even vote on the ugliest masterpiece and make it your group mascot.
Romantic Movie Marathon
At least for one day, you have permission to admit that romantic movies aren’t all that bad. Especially when it comes to classics like Notting Hill, He's Just Not That Into You, or even The Fault in Our Stars (and you already know you’ll cry your eyes out because it reminds you of your childhood). You can even bet on who will be the first to get emotional watching Brokeback Mountain or Three Steps Over Heaven. Or, if you’re not particularly a fan of love stories on the big screen, you can choose a TV series you love and do a fun rewatch together. Why not try Friends, Lizzie McGuire, or a nice Poirot mystery? Or go for a full Harry Potter marathon, or even The Lord of the Rings (for this, you might need February 15th too, unless you decide to have an after-party and make a competition to see who falls asleep last).
Baking Cookies
If even just one friend in your group knows how to turn on an oven, this activity will be a piece of cake. Grab some fun cookie cutters, the weirder the shapes, the better (or arm yourselves with knives and get creative); if you don’t feel like making the dough (though we’re sure that would be another memorable experience), you can always buy it pre-made. Oh, and of course, you’re free to use any edible decorations you can find: sugar flowers, colored fondant, sprinkles, chocolate chips… we’re sure you’ll have fun and end up devouring the fruits of your labor. We recommend wearing aprons to avoid any outfit stains.
