After Ruby Rose's unexpected farewell to the character, The CW chose Javicia Leslie as the new Batwoman.

As leaked in the previous weeks, the actress will play Ryan Wilder, a completely new character in the DC world. Described by Warner Bros. Television as "adorable, messed up, a little clumsy and indomitable", Ryan will take the place of Kate Kane, the character played by Ruby Rose whose disappearance will be at the center of the second season's plot.

No recasting then, but the decisive choice that continues the idea of inclusiveness started with the casting of Ruby Rose and seen in many other shows of what is called the Berlantiverse, the set of television shows on the DC characters created by Greg Berlanti. In addition to being openly bisexual, Javicia Leslie will be primarily the first black actress to wear Batwoman's costume.

I am extremely proud to be the first black actress to play Batwoman's iconic role on television and, as a bisexual woman, I am honored to be part of this revolutionary show that supported the Lgbtq + community.

The very young actress, born in 1987, is known for participating in two seasons of God Friended Me, the series The Family Business and Always a Bridesmaid.
