Sirene Milano is not only the first Italian women's American football team but a family, in which different personalities coexist and complement each other. Discipline, perseverance and mutual trust are some of the founding values for the group, united by a strong sense of belonging and ready to fight together to achieve their dreams, including spreading the discipline of women's football in Italy and Europe.

Unlike other sports traditionally thought of as feminine, in which competition between female teammates is completely unavoidable, this community lives everything in reverse: eager to legitimize their passion against stereotypes and prejudices, they challenge the old and ingrained thought that girls cannot challenge each other in a sport with a high percentage of physical contact by running until the goal, what they themselves call a touchdown, is achieved.

For me, the Sirene are a family, my reference point and my joy.

"Il football mi ha aiutato tanto a credere nell’amicizia tra donne. È facile pensare, anche per un discorso culturale interiorizzato dalla società, che nei gruppi di donne ci sia più competizione che coesione."

American football is the art of staying on your feet when everyone is trying to knock you down. You learn to get back up, with the help of your teammates, thinking about the goal, the touchdown.

Nausicaa Dell'Orto

82 Tight end

As the captain of the Italian Women's National American Football Team, Nausicaa is a focal point for the team. Her energy engages and incites all the girls at every practice. The deep bond that binds her to the sport makes her an athlete capable of running beyond all limits to achieve her dreams.

Playing football is like running through a jungle: you have to learn how and when to attack, what to be afraid of, and most importantly, who to run with. Like lionesses in the savannah, teammates fight for each other united by a sense of solidarity, acceptance and sacrifice, all striving toward a common goal. Nausicaa chose to found Sirene Milano together with her teammates to create space in the sport and demonstrate how certain obstacles, both figurative and physical, can be overcome when faced together.

"There are times when it is harder to get back up and try again, both in life and on the pitch, but I find motivation in the eyes of my teammates and those who believe in me. It is thanks to football that I became brave, and that I realized that fears can be faced and overcame. The armor of the uniform is not only what I wear, but it represents the very structure of the team that includes me and my teammates, the coaches, who make me feel stronger."

Through Nausicaa's words, it is easy to understand how football is a sportive representation of life's challenges: after facing confrontation, one always becomes stronger. At an uprecedented time in history filled with uncertainty, bullying, and toxic confrontation, many people start being interest into this sport. The Sirene Milano group continues to work to teach a little girl to fight for something, and to ensure making her more confident in order to grow into a woman who will pass those strenght and positive values on to her teammates, so as to create a virtuous circle toward real change.
