London always stands out during fashion week. Not only on the runways, but also on the streets of the UK capital, which come alive with extreme and fun looks. It's no surprise, after all: this is the birthplace of punk and the miniskirt. While designers may sometimes forget this heritage, English fashion enthusiasts make sure to remind us. The latest London Fashion Week Men's SS25, held from June 7 to 9, was no exception.
The makeup is red
This also applies to makeup. Exaggerated headpieces, eclectic pins, and layered, torn garments are paired with colorful eyeshadows, extending across the upper face or sending political and humanitarian messages. The standout color for this makeup trend, aimed at creating a strong visual impact, is red. Just grab a good primer, a red or burgundy eyeshadow and a brush, and blend to your heart's content. There are no limits. Sometimes, it’s applied only to the inner corner of the eye, evoking a flag seen more frequently at rallies, other times on the lips. Either way, it’s the true star of London's beauty scene.
Minimal glow persists, despite everything
Alongside these bold self-expressions that aim to make a strong statement, the call of a minimal, glossy, natural glow still resonates, especially popular on social media. We’re in the realm of the clean girl, the glazed donut look popularized by Hailey Bieber. The result? A dewy complexion achieved with liquid blush and cream highlighters, mimicking a healthy flush without overshadowing the outfit. Skincare plays a crucial role, ensuring we stay hydrated 24/7.
The importance of accessories
London might just be the most accessorized fashion capital of all. Hats, headphones, pins, jewelry, piercings, extensions, and grillz blend seamlessly with makeup in a whirlwind of maximalism, blurring the lines between accessories and beauty. And that’s perfectly fine. This approach to makeup is fascinating as it breaks away from traditional notions of desirability and gender binaries, becoming a medium for self-expression and message conveyance that belongs to everyone.
