Margot Robbie is the new face of Chanel No. 5
The maison renews collaboration with the star performer of Barbie
September 13th, 2024
Margot Robbie is the actress of the moment. The success of Barbie has definitively established her as part of the Hollywood elite, not just for her beauty but for her talent. Her career is full of important roles. She was Di Caprio's wife in The Wolf of Wall Street, the skater Tonya Harding in I, Tonya, the unpredictable Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, played Sharon Tate for Quentin Tarantino in Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood, and a silent film star in Damien Chazelle's Babylon. On screen, she has portrayed the many facets of being a woman, both strong and fragile, the same qualities embodied by Chanel N°5. For this reason, the Maison has chosen Robbie as the new face of its most iconic fragrance.
An iconic perfume with many faces
Chanel N°5 is not just a perfume but a cult object. It is said that Madame Coco was looking for a unique fragrance, different from the lily-of-the-valley or violet scents popular at the time. She wanted something modern, complex, that smelled fresh and clean and evoked a woman's scent, perhaps like the skin of her mother, who worked as a laundress in Provence. She entrusted the task to chemist Ernest Beaux, who in 1921 created Chanel N°5, a revolutionary product in every way, even in the essential design of the bottle, which resembled whisky bottles and has been part of the permanent collections of the MOMA in New York since 1954. The rest is a century-long story, not only of scents but also of images created by great masters like Andy Warhol, Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, Jean-Paul Goude,Baz Luhrmann, and of beautiful women. From Marilyn Monroe, who confessed to wearing just a few drops to bed, to Catherine Deneuve, from Nicole Kidman to Gisele Bündchen, from Audrey Tautou to Marion Cotillard, each of these women has lent her face and personality to N°5 over the years. Now it is Margot Robbie's turn to embody the many different notes that the Chanel perfume holds within.
The first photo of Margot Robbie for Chanel N°5
"I think Chanel N°5 is one of the most iconic perfumes in the world. Countless talents have been associated with this fragrance over the years. It’s incredible to be part of it today. I'm truly honored to join this roster of extraordinary talents" said the actress, commenting on her new role as the face of Chanel N°5. The appointment confirms the strong relationship between the French Maison and the Australian actress. Robbie has been Chanel's ambassador since March 2018 and previously starred in beauty campaigns like the one for the Nuit Blanche lipstick line. In the first image released from the new Chanel N°5 campaign, shot by young Parisian photographer Karim Sadli, the star wears a cherry red tweed suit, adorned with gold buttons featuring the double C logo. Her honey blonde hair cascades over her shoulders and her makeup is clean, with a focus on brick-colored lips. In her arms, Margot holds a large bottle of Chanel N°5, with the unmistakable octagonal cap inspired by Place Vendôme.
Chanel N°5 campaign to be directed by Luca Guadagnino
What could make Margot Robbie's appointment as the face of Chanel N°5 more exclusive? A video campaign directed by Luca Guadagnino, co-starring Jacob Elordi alongside the Barbie actress. Titled See You at 5, the short film will be revealed in October and is expected to tell the story of a missed appointment due to a twist of fate. Curious? Who knows how they will interpret the notes of the iconic perfume, along with themes of desire, solitude, and femininity. Expectations are high, but we are confident the result will live up to the campaigns created in the past by cult directors.
