Lady Gaga's beauty routine
Here are the star's favorite products and beauty secrets
November 20th, 2024
Lady Gaga is back! Over four years since Chromatica and three years since Love for Sale with Tony Bennett, she has starred alongside Joaquin Phoenix in Joker: Folie à Deux, got engaged to Michael Polansky, and recently released Disease, the first single from her upcoming studio album, LG7, set to drop in February 2025. A whirlwind of projects, each with its unique style: fiery red pixie cuts with grunge outfits, bob cuts with bangs and clown-inspired makeup, long blonde waves paired with a very demure aesthetic, 1950s hairstyles with scarlet lipstick, raven locks with bleached brows, and many other transformations. Every time Gaga steps on screen, on stage, or the red carpet, she reinvents herself, experimenting with colors, textures, shadows, blush, and eyeliner to present the world with a fresh version of herself. This experimentation with makeup, she says, helped her find her voice, makes her feel powerful and ready to face the world. Standing by her side in creating her iconic looks are makeup artist Sarah Tanno, esthetician Joomee Song, and hairstylist Frederic Aspiras. This glam team knows all of Gaga’s beauty secrets. Lady Gaga’s Skincare Routine: Vitamin C Serum, Moisturizer, and Anti-Aging Masks
"Every morning, I wash my face and use tons of toners and serums. I try all kinds of things on my skin, always finishing with a sunscreen moisturizer," Gaga revealed. Her skincare routine includes a few simple steps: addressing discoloration with a touch of concealer and applying lip oil for a natural glow. Her longtime makeup artist Sarah Tanno, who also works with celebrities like Gigi Hadid, Sydney Sweeney, and Dakota Johnson, boasts that Gaga has “the most incredible skin in the business.” It’s thanks to good genetics, sure, but also diligent daily habits and high-quality products. Key products in Gaga’s regimen include the Truth Serum by Olehenriksen, rich in vitamin C, which she applies with a sonic infusion device to enhance absorption and leave her skin firm and radiant. Sometimes, she opts for Vintner's Daughter Active Botanical Serum, a powerful multifunctional serum that nourishes, balances the skin, minimizes wrinkles, evens tone, and restores natural glow—so effective that she often skips moisturizer afterward. When she does moisturize, she uses Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré, a French cult favorite among celebrities. This multifunctional product serves as a face primer, hydrating mask, or cleansing cream-oil. For added radiance, Gaga applies Baume de Rose Face Cream by By Terry, renowned for its velvety texture and rose-concentrated formula that hydrates and nourishes.
Her evening skincare routine is simple yet effective: she removes makeup with Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré and pampers herself with face masks paired with eye patches. Favorites include Talika Bio Enzymes Hydrating Mask, Talika Bio Enzymes Purifying Mask, and 111Skin Cryo De-Puffing Facial Mask, which mimics cryotherapy, using caffeine to reduce puffiness and dark circles while peptides promote circulation. To further enhance her skin, Gaga loves facial massages, often turning to Joomee Song for treatments like the Kaika massage and microcurrent facial therapy.
Lady Gaga’s Makeup: Versatile, but Often Minimalist
Lady Gaga never fails to surprise, especially with her makeup. From XXL lashes at the 2019 Met Gala to violet glitter eyeshadow at the 2020 VMAs, her looks are anything but dull. According to Tanno, every look starts with hydration and a firming anti-aging face mask to destress her skin, minimize pores, and create a smooth base for makeup. The subsequent steps vary based on the style they want to achieve, though Gaga increasingly favors a “barely there” look for her everyday routine. In a recent video, Gaga shared her minimal makeup routine: After skincare, she uses a blend of Dior foundation and Haus Laboratories Glam Attack in Aphrodite, or Triclone Skin Tech Medium Coverage Foundation in shade 110 from Haus Labs, to even out her complexion. She enhances her look with Haus Labs products, such as the hydrating Triclone Skin Tech Concealer in shade 11, and adds a pop of color with the Color Fuse Glassy Lip + Cheek Blush Balm Stick in Glassy Rosette. For the finishing touch, she defines her eyes with Clear Cut liquid eyeliner and her favorite mascara, Tom Ford’s Velvet Noir Major Volume.
Lady Gaga’s Hair Care: Wigs and Creativity
Lady Gaga loves changing her hair color and style. With the help of Frederic Aspiras, she transitions from pink to honey blonde, from blue to silver, and from black to cherry red. While many of these transformations involve custom wigs made specifically for the star, these constant changes can be stressful and damaging to her natural hair. To keep her hair as healthy as possible, intensive care is required. Aspiras ensures not to overdo the styling and relies on a carefully curated kit of tools, which includes various essential oils mixed with hair oils like Alterna Anti-Frizz Nourishing Oil, a lightweight, hydrating anti-aging oil treatment to combat frizz; Celeb Luxury Viral Semi-Permanent Colorwash Shampoo; Color Wow Brass Banned Correct and Perfect Mousse; Olaplex No. 3; Mason Pearson brushes; and The Antidote Silk Wrap Styler by Amika.
Lady Gaga’s Favorite Fragrance
Gaga has a strong and eclectic personality, but which perfume embodies her best? It’s hard to say. The star has her own fragrance, Fame, a floral, opulent, and fruity essence with top notes of incense, belladonna, and saffron. She is also the face of Voce Viva by Valentino Beauty, a fragrance that stands out for its bold and feminine bouquet of white flowers, intensified by jasmine absolute and complemented by a lingering note of crystal musk, further enhanced by bourbon vanilla. Whether Gaga wears these two perfumes is unknown, but in the past, she has revealed her fondness for Paris by Yves Saint Laurent and Womanity by Mugler, along with a passion for Tiki Tahiti Monoï oil.
