Interview with the muse and creative strategist of Charlotte Tilbury

Bella Tilbury is many women in one. You can tell by a glance at her Instagram profile, where she showcases countless looks, appearing like a different person in every shot, pulling us into a glamorous, artistic, hypnotic, and deeply personal world. But it becomes even clearer when she answers our questions, which focus on her work as a muse and also as the creative strategist for Charlotte Tilbury, one of the most beloved brands online among girls and boys worldwide. How does it feel being a Charlotte Tilbury muse?
I’m incredibly grateful to work alongside my family and be a muse for Charlotte’s iconic brand! I love working with Charlotte, as well as my mum, Leah, who’s our Chief Ideation Officer, and my sister, Sofia, who’s our Global Artistry Director and a super talented makeup artist. What I find so exciting about the Charlotte Tilbury brand is the huge impact it’s had on the beauty industry. Charlotte only launched her brand in 2013, but it’s quickly become one of the biggest luxury beauty brands in the world! Knowing that I’m a part of its story and history is such an honour and something I’m really proud of.
I understand that you are involved in the creative within Charlotte Tilbury too. What is that like for you?
As well as being a brand muse, I’m also a creative strategist, so I work across the Charlotte Tilbury marketing and creative teams. It’s quite a unique role but it’s amazing as I get to work on multiple campaigns and partner with the teams to bring these to life. It starts with Charlotte’s vision – what she wants for the brand, the campaigns, the new product launches – to then bringing these to fruition with some of the best creatives in the industry.
We have such a dynamic, collaborative energy at Charlotte Tilbury, which is what makes the magic happen every day. Everyone in our Tilbury dream team is so hardworking, driven, smart and creative, and I’m constantly learning from them. I’m also very lucky to have grown up around such visionary thinkers in my family and work with them today, including Charlotte. She’s phenomenal and has always been an inspiration to me – her passion, creativity and dedication is like nothing else!
When and how did your passion for beauty begin?
I think my passion for beauty came about quite naturally. Growing up, I had a lot of exposure to the beauty world through Charlotte’s career as a makeup artist. So, I became obsessed with it quite quickly – I was even the one who would do all my friends’ makeup! I see makeup as a tool for confidence, a form of self-expression and something to experiment and have fun with. This is something Charlotte realized when she discovered the transformative power of makeup as a teenager, and to this day it’s still very much at the heart of the Charlotte Tilbury brand.
How has your life in Ibiza influenced your view on beauty and wellness?
Growing up in Ibiza has definitely influenced how I invest in my own health and wellness. My family has also played a big role in how I take care of myself holistically. They have always been very health conscious, and I think that comes from living in a place like Ibiza, where there’s a much slower pace of life and a big wellness culture. A lot of people there are always finding new ways to elevate their health and wellness routines, and I like to think I’m the same. Right now, I’m getting into regular saunas and ice baths!
What's the one beauty product you can't live without?
It’s almost impossible to choose a favourite, but right now, I can’t live without Charlotte’s Magic Water Cream. It instantly hydrates, smooths and plumps the look of my skin and gives it a dewy glow, which I love. If I could add just one more, it would be Charlotte’s new Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara. I was lucky enough to star in the campaign for it and I remember trying it for the first time – it made my eyes look bigger and brighter and gave my lashes so much volume, curl and length!
Tell us about your skincare routine
I have a much simpler skincare routine now than I used to. My skin’s become drier as I’ve gotten older, so I’m all about making sure it’s hydrated. The products currently in my everyday routine are Charlotte’s Magic Hydration Revival Cleanser, Glow Toner, Magic Serum Crystal Elixir, Magic Eye Rescue and Magic Water Cream. I’m also loving Charlotte’s new Immediate Eye Revival Patches right now. These are my saviour for when I’ve had late nights or have been travelling a lot as they brighten, hydrate and smooth the look of my under-eye area in just 10 minutes! Whenever my skin’s feeling dehydrated, I reach for Charlotte’s Magic Hydrator Mist. What I love about it is that you can apply it at the start of your skincare routine to help boost absorption, but you can also spritz it any time throughout the day, even on top of makeup. I always carry one in my bag for a quick pick-me-up.
Do you use social media to understand trends? How do you also like to use your social media platform?
I love using social media to keep up to date with trends and find inspiration. There are so many amazing content creators out there and it’s impressive seeing how trends can completely blow up and take on a life of their own. I follow a lot of creatives – photographers, directors, producers, artists – as I like to be inspired by people in different industries to me. With my own social channels, I use them pretty casually and don’t actually plan anything – it’s very much posting as and when I feel like it! I do share a lot of my work, but I also share snapshots from my personal life too.
Tell us what the future holds for you?
Looking ahead, I definitely want to keep prioritising my family, health, happiness and career. Within my role at Charlotte Tilbury, I’m excited to build connections and collaborate with emerging creative talent in all fields connected to beauty, finding ways to support them and give them a platform.
