The frosty lips are back, straight from the 2000s Their iced finish with glitter is perfect for winter 2024

It’s well known by now: trends never die; sooner or later, they come back. Like the Berry make-up, inspired by the ‘90s vamp look, or the blue eyeshadow, taking cues from the iconic Twiggy. Alongside Pamela Anderson’s Hollywood comeback with The Last Showgirl, her iconic frosty lips have also made a return—perfect for this festive season.

What Are Frosty Lips

The term frosty lips refers to the frosted effect created on the lips, characterized by an ultra-shimmer finish that brightens your face. The undisputed queens of this trend are the icons of the early 2000s: Pamela Anderson, who rocked this look on every occasion, Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and Kate Moss.

Which Lipsticks to Choose

After years of matte and satin-finish lipsticks, shimmer lipsticks are back on the shelves—perfect for recreating frosty lips. The first brand to relaunch these products this year was Isamaya Beauty with its Lucky Kiss lipsticks in three different shades. If you prefer something lighter, the same brand has also created a tinted lip balm in the shade Pantomime. A pioneer of shimmer products, MAC, celebrated its 40th anniversary this October by reintroducing its most iconic lipsticks, including Bubbles, Haku, and Chintz, the original frosted lipsticks popular in the 2000s. For a more budget-friendly option, try the Super Lustrous Lipstick No. 025 Skyline Pink by Revlon, which—similar to MAC's Bubbles—perfectly recreates that Hollywood diva look.

How to Recreate Frosty Lips

Before applying your chosen lipstick, outline your lips with a darker pencil than the lipstick shade. For pink tones, use a mauve-colored pencil like 13 Marvelpus Mauve Lip Stain Liner by Sephora Collection. If you can’t find the perfect shimmer lipstick, you can always create your own! Apply your favorite nude lipstick—non-matte—and dab a little highlighter on top. Another alternative to shimmer lipsticks is a super-glittery lip gloss like My Gloss Plump & Shine by Astra Make-Up.

@chellineees #greenscreen the girlies are bringing back the frosty vibes & I’m all here for it. I was obssesed with all the frost lipsticks MAC used to carry. Spanish Fly, Icon, Spoiled Fabulous and ofcourse the VG Rihanna (which I still have and wear) etc . . . This is in no way a “new trend” as Gel has been loved for many years now!! It’s just getting all our love and attention again

How to Complete the Makeup Look

Frosty lips can be considered a jewel-like makeup look: they brighten the face and provide a brilliant finish perfect for the holidays. But how to complete the look without going too much? Pamela Anderson paired hers with a rockstar girlfriend look featuring cool-toned smokey eyes, while Paris Hilton preferred rosy tones. Our suggestion? A light, slightly shimmery eyeshadow, a touch of mascara, and you’re good to go.
