Color and sustainability. To celebrate the second year of the Flyleather project, Nike has decided to collaborate with the Berlin illustrator Ruohan Wang.
The purpose of the initiative - which saw Steven Harrington's artwork as the protagonist last year - is to avoid waste and produce uppers made with at least 50% recycled leather fiber.
For the second edition, Ruohan Wang expressed her vision on three iconic silhouettes: Air Force 1, Blazer Mid '77 and Air Max 90. The vibrant colors used by Wang as a reference to the natural forces of the earth and balance, combine with perfection with the dynamism of the silhouettes, allowing the artist not only to express this balance but also to tell her story.
Born in China and raised in Berlin, Ruohan Wang founds her art in the symbolic union of these two places, and in the attention and respect for the environment.
"The earth belongs to every person. Every culture is part of this global mission to protect it. Given my Chinese background and my artistic training in Berlin, it felt right to present that motivation born out of many cultures".
Message that we find also in the characters used on the Air Force 1 and Blazer '77, where "natural circle" and "power and love" are printed on the midsole and in the vibrant shades of the upper that recall the creative energy of Berlin.
The Flyleather pack will be available starting September 24 on nike.com
