Fall-Winter 2020 accessory trend: the maxi collar
A timeless item to give a new twist to sweaters, cardigans and shirts
October 29th, 2020
Since last spring, we have seen this item on all the catwalks and worn by influencers from all over the world: the maxi collar, also known as pilgrim collar or Peter Pan collar. After the return of the 70s spiky collars, now it's the turn of the graceful and delicate collars made of soft lines, usually in oversized version.
Many brands made it a winning element and often a recurring item in their collections, from Chanel to Miu Miu, from Ganni to Simone Rocha, in fact they proposed the collars in their FW20 collections.
Like most of the trends analyzed during the latest Fashion Weeks, it is not the first time we see it, in fact this is a timeless accessory, with a legacy that recalls the 80s and 90s, when it used to decorate shirts, cardigans, coats and vests in the outfits of the fashion icons of the time, like the unforgettable Lady Diana, who used to wear it almost on a daily basis.
To give a new twist to a cardigan, a shirt or a sweater, what about opting for a maxi collar? The options are various, to fit all kinds of personal style: from the leather or coated collars by Ganni, for more street looks, to the easy-chic collars by Naya Rea and Lazzari, up to those made of faux fur by Marni.
