1. King Edward VIII & Wallis Simpson (1936 - 1972)

It was 1936 when the heir to the throne, Edward gave up his kingdom to have his beloved Wallis Simpson by his side. Thus it was that in 1961 the two founded the fashion house Yves Saint Laurent, where Yves was finally able to demonstrate how much his creative flair was worth. Their romantic relationship was interrupted in 1976, but the two always remained side by side, faithful life companions, only to finally get married in 2008 shortly before Yves's death. Pierre Bergé died in 2017 but for all the years following the death of his beloved he continued to write letters dedicated to him to make their love live beyond death.
