Just in time for the upcoming holiday season, Miu Miu unveils Upcycled, its latest project that combines sustainability, vintage and elegance. Supporting a model of circular fashion, based on recycling and reuse of materials, the Milanese brand has collected 80 garments from stores and vintage clothing markets around the world, dating back to the period between the '30s and '80s, deconstructed and reconstructed them, reshaped and decorated according to Miu Miu style with sequins, pearls, crystals, bows and ribbons.
The first creations made their debut last October, during the Green Carpet Fashion Awards. For the event, actress Elisa Visari wore a 1960s cocktail dress, customized with puffed sleeves and pearl embellishments; while Chen Ran opted for a 1930s burgundy evening gown, updated with a sequin collar and Victorian-style crystal embroidery on the sleeves.
Highlights of the collection include the 1960s cocktail dress in ivory, personalized with collar, all-over crystal embroidery, belt with green satin bow and jewel buckle; the 1970s dress in periwinkle blue cotton and linen, personalized with white duchesse collar and lace profiles, and illuminated by diamond applications; but also the 70s dress in pale pink pleated crepe, made special by black silk balloon sleeves, belt with jewel buckle, white crepe collar and hem with applied feathers. And for the holidays? Our two favorite styles are the sixties mini dress in coral red crepe with embroidered trims, customized with contrasting black crepe insert and white collar, or the seventies dress in green silk crepe, customized with contrasting white collar and cuffs and illuminated all over with crystals.
The Upcycled by Miu Miu dresses are available in nine selected Miu Miu boutiques: Milan, London, Paris, Moscow, New York, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Tokyo, St.Moritz.
The Upcycled by Miu Miu project is set to run even after the festive season. On the IG profile of the brand has, in fact, appeared the teaser of a collaboration with Levi's. The denim of the US company's vintage clothes will become the material for the new creations of Upcycled by Miu Miu's second chapter, which should hit stores in spring.
