Jenna Ortega is much more than Wednesday Addams
The new face of adidas and a style icon
February 3rd, 2023
Jenna Ortega's last year was marked by a perfect match between her personal style and the character of Wednesday in the reboot of the hit Netflix series: from preppy everyday white shirts, ties and loafers in a kind of school uniform to gothic Versace looks worn on the red carpets. There seemed to be an overlap between the American actress and Tim Burton's last great character, a dangerous climate in which Ortega was in danger of losing her stylistic and acting independence. A new hairstyle and a gossamer, powdery Gucci look for the 2023 Golden Globes were enough to restore the balance. The actress appeared in a new light brown hue and a gossamer, ethereal dress, which was totally unexpected considering her past as a stickler for black. After a brief comeback in black with a hoodie for Saint Laurent's FW23, a new chapter in the actress' style evolution was opened yesterday when adidas announced that Ortega will be the testimonial for a new brand under the German sportswear giant's umbrella from 9 February: adidas Sportswear, the first new label the company has launched in the last 50 years.

It seems that the new line will focus on giving the brand a new creative angle, while the collection will undoubtedly be based on the brand's historical pieces that reference its Three Stripes roots, all in the form of Gen Z-friendly looks. The images of her purple look, consisting of striped jersey and tracksuit, reminded us of a younger Jenna, long before her Netflix breakthrough with You in 2019, when her career began with small TV roles. Unsurprisingly, the actress' personal style has evolved a lot since her first red carpet appearances in Hollywood. She used to focus on colour, transparency and skin-tight jumpsuits, with a few glaring slips.
Certain elements of her look, however, have become a constant over the years, from her passion for miniskirts to her penchant for vertiginous platform shoes. The intersection between past and present was certainly the pink Valentino look she wore to the Met Gala in 2022, while paparazzi photos of her draped in a lace Dion Lee catsuit while listening to music with wired headphones go down in history. A true style icon of Gen Z.
