Cormio conquers the field and presents the funniest accessory of Milan Fashion Week
Between girly aesthetics and Futsal inspirations
February 24th, 2023
A few years ago, before TikTok hypnotised us by releasing a new core every minute and the pandemic took our artistic streak hostage to make homemade bread and masks, there was a time when taking parts from the sports world and turning them into eye-catching accessories had become popular after upcycling. From DIY experiments to young designers like Ancuta Sarca to luxury brands, they took a pair of broken or old trainers, disassembled them and put them back together to make super cool pumps, sandals and boots. The same happened with basketballs, rugby balls or footballs, which, cut up and given small elements, found a second life as vases, knick-knacks and bags. Now, this mood and cheerful DIY spirit are being revived thanks to Cormio. For its Autumn Winter 2023 collection, the Italian brand has infected the world of futsal with its girly, dysfunctional aesthetic of bright colours and fun details.
On a real 5-a-side football pitch, while a game between little girls takes place, Cormio's models carry a message about gender equality in the world of sport and the right to play, regardless of gender or sexual orientation, with a cheerful, rebellious attitude. The Calvairate Sports Centre is the styling and is transformed into a paradise for the eyes, filled with arches, goleaders, beauty and colour. What works above all is the styling, reminiscent of a striking mix of Betsey Johnson's emo-rock princesses and the iconic Bend it Like Beckham of the early 2000s, with outfits combining pleated miniskirts, striped tops, wrap tops, denim maxi skirts, star-spangled long dresses, soft knit trousers and muffs. The most charming highlights? The ones that reinvent sportswear like socks, goalkeeper gloves or ball-bags. Rounding out the looks are the ubiquitous futsal shoes from Mizuno, Gems, Diadora and Lotto, customised with bows, colourful ribbons and fun pins.
