Micro bras are the unexpected trend of autumn/winter 2023 2024

From Sanremo to the front rows, more and more celebrities are supporting the #FreetheNipple movement, choosing see-through dresses that allow a glimpse of the naked body, especially breasts, as a sign of female empowerment. In this way, Dua Lipa, Chiara Ferragni, Julia Fox and all the others are demanding the right of every woman to decide for herself about her body, including whether and when to show it. Designers have also started to offer more and more garments with transparencies and cut-outs that emphasise the female forms. At the same time, they have also thought of those who are a little more reserved and do not want to bare their breasts completely, but want to embrace the trend to send a message of independence, strength and beauty. The perfect alternative is micro bras, a playful and cool alternative to the airy nipples that unexpectedly dominated not only the SS23 catwalks (remember the pink bows that adorned the breasts of Acne Studios models?) but also those for Autumn/Winter 2023 2024.
Taking a cue from Karl Lagerfeld, who for Chanel SS96 dressed Claudia Schiffer, Carla Bruni, Stella Tennant and other supermodels in tiny bikinis whose bras featured little circles of the maison's iconic double C (Jennifer Anniston wore them for the cover of Allure magazine's December 2022 issue), last fashion month's protagonists, each in their own way, rejected the concept of the micro-bra.
Ludovic de Saint Sernin, in his debut under the creative direction of Ann Demeulemeester, reinterpreted the brand's codes, using an ethereal feather as a top, paired with an elegant silk longuette. A very 90s look, like that of Vaquera, who chose a round mini bra similar to Chanel's most famous ones. Sparkling and glittering, on the other hand, are the bejewelled bras at Moschino, Di Petsa, Bronx and Banco and Gucci. They are perfect for adding a special touch to the strictest of outfits or to the maxi skirt, another big trend of the season. Nensi Dojaka continues her preference for underwear as casual wear, offering bras with small measurements, made of transparent fabric and decorated with small ruffles, while Heliot Emil prefers a more utilitarian and industrial approach, encasing the models' bust with a thin elastic band. Nature, on the other hand, inspired Puppets & Puppets, David Koma and Melke with flowering peaches, anthuriums and roses as romantic and fun alternatives to classic bralettes. More eccentric touches, but not too much, from Kim Shui, who recreates the brand's glittering K symbol, and Hodakova, who turned spoons into perfect nipple covers after repurposing belted dresses.
