Last Monday, US pop star Doja Cat appeared on the red carpet of the iHeart Awards with a simple but eye-catching look, consisting of a white t-shirt, leather trousers and beige fur. Although the outfit lacked controversy, now a typical feature of the artist's style choices, the same cannot be said about the bag, a real "zipped" Bible. A few weeks earlier, during Paris fashion week, Julia Fox had also chosen the same accessory, using it as a clutch bag to add interest to her usual look, a faded total denim outfit.

But who is behind this questionable design? Filipina designer Aylah Gallardo, considered one of the leading creatives of the new Los Angeles fashion scene. With a price tag of $1355, it is the only item for sale on Gallardo's website, an accessory that has proven to be a valuable ticket to access the close circle of designers favoured by celebrity stylists. The bag comes from old Bible covers, reworked into a clutch bag thanks to zips, internal pockets, and a silk lining. The inspiration for this design came from Gallardo's teenage years spent at a Catholic girls' high school, as well as the "vintage" Bible she still owns. A similar design had also been designed by Vetements in 2017, although in that case it was a generic book cover branded in gold with the brand's logo.  «The main challenge was finding the right artisan who believed in the idea, as most of them had rejected the idea of deconstructing a Bible,» Gallardo explained about the production of the Bible Bag.
