Rihanna is no longer CEO of Savage X Fenty, the lingerie company founded by the star in 2018, whose investors include LVMH and Jay-Z's Marcy Venture Partners. The role will be taken over by former Anthropologie Group CEO Hillary Super, while Riri will retain a leadership position as executive chair to ensure a smooth transition between the two businesswomen. The unexpected news was confirmed by the brand's founder herself, who told Vogue Business:
«It’s been beautiful to see our vision for Savage X Fenty impact the industry at such an incredible magnitude over the last five years. This is just the beginning for us, and we’re going to continue to expand in ways that always connect with the consumer. I’m so grateful and excited to welcome Hillary Super as our new CEO – she is a strong leader and is focused on taking the business to an even higher level».
«I'm thrilled to join the Savage X Fenty family," the new CEO said. "The brand is a major powerhouse in the lingerie and apparel industry, and its unwavering commitment to celebrating inclusivity and fearlessness is inspiring.»
Said Super of his new job, pointing out that since its inception, Savage X Fenty has been distinguished by its focus on inclusivity in terms of sizes and colours and has been gaining more and more popularity, thanks in part to its annual fashion shows, which are real events with lots of guests and include music, dance and fashion. Super, who has also previously held leadership positions at brands such as American Eagle, Guess, Gap and Old Navy, and was named to the US Forty Women to Watch Over 40" list in 2017 for "reinvigorating retail and breaking stereotypes"," is looking to lead the company into the future, partially detach it from Rihanna and celebrity brand status, and transform it into an established reality beyond the "R factor" In the coming months, the new CEO plans to expand the physical capacity of Savage X Fenty (which currently has seven shops in the United States, including Los Angeles, Houston, Las Vegas and Atlanta) to expand beyond e-commerce.
