Summer sandals for the sandal hater
Cosa indossare quando fa caldo ma non vogliamo mostrare la punta dei piedi?
August 4th, 2023
Summer is here, and with the hot temperatures and fresh pedicures comes one thing all sandal-haters despise; the open-toed shoe. For some of us, no matter how many peeling foot masques we do, open-toed sandals will never be the go-to option.
In previous years, with the rise of Birkenstock Bostons, there was a clear fan favorite for summer slides, but now that everyone has at least two pairs, what are some other options for a fun, flirty, and closed-toed summer?
Carlson Suède Mules

Starting off on the more foot-conservative side with the new classic Doc Martin mule. The Doc Marten Carlson Suède Mules are the love child between the Birkenstock Boston and Crocs, with an adjustable “sport mode” strap that takes you from easy mule to slingback sandal. These are perfect to wear to work, the library on a warm weekend, or while riding a bike in the summer heat. If you’ve ever tried to ride a bike with open-toed sandals, then you know you’re one wrong move away from chipping your nail polish.
St. Agni Fisherman Flatform Sandals
The St. Agni Fisherman Flatform Sandals are a must-have this season if you can get your hands on a pair. Pairing a bubble sole with sleek thick cross straps, St. Agni’s modern take on the Fisherman sandal is chic and perfect for a casual evening date watching an outdoor film or strolling around the flower market on Sunday morning.
Melissa
The Melissa Jelly shoes have made a huge comeback since the 90s, leaning into our current love of nostalgia. Jelly shoes are another very different, modern take on the Fisherman sandal. Brought back into relevance by celebs such as Jennifer Lawrence, the jelly shoe is perfect for dates in a flower field, having a cup of coffee at your local cafe, and shopping with the girls.
Aloha's Whiz Black Leather Mules
Aloha’s Whiz Black Leather Mules are the slides of dreams. With the same general shape as the Birkenstock Bostons but with a squared toe and all-black leather body, these mules are perfect for any occasion – from date night to museum days.
Bostons
We get it; the Bostons are here to stay. Between luxury collabs and celeb endorsements, Bostons are a formidable closed-toed sandal force. But what about those of us who’d rather not wear the same shoe every other it-girl is wearing? This summer, try spicing it up with sandals that are perfect for all sandal-haters.
