How to recreate at home the coolest bottle holder of the moment

Among the latest trends of this (now past) 2020, an unusual accessory resonated, and we have never seen it before on the catwalks: the bottle holder bag.

A.w.a.k.e., Kenzo, Chloé, Marine Serre and Jacquemus, these are just some of the iconic brands that made this bottle holder not only a powerful message of sustainability, shouting to the whole world "stop using plastic bottles", but also a must-have of the new year that just started.

Utility fashion is making great steps, and is even more effective when it meets the environmental sustainability requirements: but we can do more, transforming this new it-bag into a real street style accessory, totally recycled. Take an old quilted quilted jacket from your closet and in a few simple steps you can transform it into the coolest bottle holder of the moment.

What do you need?

A quilted jacket (rectangle 27cm x 25cm); a lining (strip 27cm x 10cm); 1 meter of thin elastic band; a cord stopper of 1 meter; 2 hooks; 50 cm or 1 meter of chain; scissors, needle and thread; sewing machine.

STEP 1

Lay out the quilted jacket. From the back cut a rectangle of 27 cm X 25 cm (wide X high). Take the lining and cut a second rectangle 27 cm X 10 cm (wide X high).

Fold the two rectangles in half (heightwise), with the right sides together. Take the smallest rectangle and work only on the short side; starting from the top, leave an opening of 4 cm and sew the rest. Take the biggest rectangle and sew the two edges, both the long and the shorter side, making an L-seam.

Turn the big rectangle to the right side. Take the smaller one (not turned) and put the sewn part over the "mouth" of the first rectangle, right sides together; this will be the barrel of the bottle holder, while the smaller one will be the closing part. Sew around the entire circumference and turn inside out.

Once the two rectangles are fixed together, finish the final part of the bottle holder. Starting from the left open part, fold the edges inwards, making a double hem. Then fold first by 2 cm and then by another 2 cm; secure the hem with a machine seam. A sort of hole will then be created in which to insert the elastic.

Take the elastic and with the help of a safety pin, insert it inside the hole just formed. Make sure that the elastic runs for the entire circumference of the bottle holder. Stop the rubber bands with the cord stopper.

STEP 6

Take the hooks and hand sew them on both sides of the bottle holder. For a more thermal solution, line the bottle holder barrel with thermal foil, following exactly the same steps as for the barrel.

Once the hooks are in place, you can fit on the chain and start using your new bottle holder. Enjoy!
