Off-White presents "I Support Black Women" campaign

Off-White has just revealed I Support Black Women, the new chapter in its quarterly fundraising program that, to coincide with Women's Herstory Month, co-stars Trinice McNally, the founding director of the Center for Diversity, Inclusion & Multicultural Affairs at the University of the District of Columbia. Virgil Abloh contacted the queer feminist activist after seeing her in a CNN interview while at the Defend Black Women March in Washington, D.C. wearing a machete, a Caribbean symbol of resistance, strapped to her chest with an Off-White belt. The two began to e-mail each other, thus starting a friendship that led to this socially-oriented initiative aimed at empowering black women.

"I founded Off-White to be a platform for amplifying diverse voices and talent and to help combat the systemic oppression of Black people. - said Abloh - I’m proud that Off-White has been able to create ‘I Support Black Women’ with Trinice McNally. She and the nine other women in our community who we will feature in our activists campaign this quarter show enormous determination in their support of Black women each and every day. It is an inspiration to honor them in our quarterly program to offset oppression Black women and men face, by amplifying Black and other underrepresented voices."

In addition to McNally, the project features nine other Black women activists, like Brianna Gibson, Jaimee Swift or Juju Bae. They are all different from each other, but all of them are leaders committed to the fight for social justice. 

I Support Black Women will be divided into two parts. For the first, developed in collaboration with Black Discourse, a platform that uses the oral tradition to convey access to knowledge for young future creatives, Off-White will host a series of webinars in the coming months, with roundtables on education in which every activist involved in the campaign will participate. The second part, instead, is a fundraiser for the creation of a school for Black Feminist Politics, together with the association Black Women Radicals founded by Jaimee Swift. The Milan-based brand has also created a series of merch that will soon hit stores.
