Kim Kardashian's Roman Holiday
The photo album of the celebrity who is in Rome since a week. Among pasta, museums and daring outfits
July 2nd, 2021
You can forget the white shirt, the full skirt, the ice cream and the Vespa rides. Kim Kardashian's Roman holiday is quite different from the one chronicled in the iconic movie starring Audrey Hepburn. And not only because in the meantime almost 70 years have passed. The star of KUWTK is in the mood for a little glamour and leisure to forget the divorce from Kanye West and the rapper's new relationship with Irina Shayk. So, if the new couple has flown to romantic Paris, Kim has preferred the Italian capital, where she is staying for about a week.
Kim arrived in Rome accompanied by her glam family, including make-up and hair artists Chris Appleton and Mario Dedivanovic. The reason for the trip is unknown, maybe a photoshoot or a new work project, maybe a collaboration with Fendi, with which Kardashian and her team had a meeting last Tuesday. The only thing that is certain, based on the flood of images we have, is that the three of them have been touring around the city, eating pasta and visiting the most famous monuments. And for the joy of her fans, for each statue or museum, the most popular member of the Kardashian-Jenner clan has sported a different outfit. During the day she opted for a weird mash-up between a diva and a group of retired people on tour, combining boxer shorts and flip-flops to walk among the cobblestones and ruins of the Colosseum; a mini-skirt, baby cardi and mules; camo pants and a Matrix-style leather trench coat; a slip dress and a baseball cap (after all, you know it's the must-have item when a celebrity needs to be noticed).
In front of the Trevi Fountain Kim showed a leopard print matchy-matchy look confirming her passion for archival looks: nails, sunglasses, micro clutch and latex dress from Dolce e Gabbana's Spring/Summer 1995 collection. In Piazza di Spagna, on the other hand, she preferred to dress in a contemporary Greco-Roman goddess total white combo, with an asymmetrical micro top, mini skirt and gladiator sandals with laces climbing up Kardashian's legs.
She saved the most daring look for visiting the Vatican Museums together with Kate Moss and her daughter Lila Grace. Kim wore a tight lace dress with cut-out details that, following the religious dress code, she had to cover with a black trench coat. The choice of the star has been much criticized on social media, but anything but casual. The dress, in fact, is part of Victor Barragán's FW20 collection, inspired by the designer's Mexican heritage and the Catholic Church's persecution of brujas and brujos.
The collection is about sexuality as power and protection from widespread patriarchal domination as used in brujería in the 16th century, which may still resonate today - Barragán told Vogue, explaining his creations - There’s a sense of female empowerment throughout the collection, mixed with nocturnal enchantment.
