As evidenced by the success of Elvis, which earned Austin Butler his first Golden Globe, biopics attract the attention of young actors hoping to jump-start their careers and of audiences eager to discover more or less familiar details about celebrities on the big screen. Although the project about Madonna's life seems to have stalled, many such films are currently in the works, from the Luca Guadagnino- directed film about Audrey Hepburn to the one dedicated to Amy, with SamTaylor-Johnson behind the camera. Among the many titles we hope to see in cinemas soon is a very special one that tells a small but important part of Kate Moss' journey. The story of the most popular model of all time consists of ups and downs, glamour and scandals, love and fashion, rock'n roll and iconic outfits, but also of special encounters like the one with Lucien Freud.

Ellie Bamber is Kate Moss

It is precisely her relationship with the famous painter that will be the focus of Moss & Freud, a new film in which Queen Kate is personally involved both in developing the script and as executive producer with the support of the Lucian Freud Archive. The supermodel also had a say in the choice of director, which was given to James Lucas, the screenwriter of the Oscar-winning short film The Phone Call, and in the casting. Derek Jacobi has been cast as Freud, while Moss will take on the role of Ellie Bamber. The British actress is best known for her starring role in the series Willow ( TV ) and for her role alongside Jenna Coleman in The Serpent, Tom Ford's Nocturnal Animals and the new Barbie film. Although she is not a very famous name, a certain resemblance to the young Kate Moss seems obvious, and that was probably the reason why the production and Kate herself chose her. The transformation will be complete with the right beauty and costumes, rumoured to be from the model's archives from the early 2000s.

A very interesting story

Curiosity about Ellie's appearance is certainly high, but it will be equally interesting to see how the relationship between Moss and Freud is recreated. According to the official synopsis, the story is set «in a studio in Holland Park in the heady days of the early 2000s in the UK» and follows the nine months the model spent posing for the artist, with the relationship between the two, who despite coming from different worlds discovered they were soulmates, being one of friendship and mutual appreciation. Kate recalls the moment in her life when she posed completely nude and lying on a bed with her unusually soft figure (at the time she was egged on to do so by her daughter Lila Grace) and says that «sitting for Lucian was an honour and incredible experience.»

Dazed role

And to think that this all happened after the supermodel had said in an interview for Dazed that posing for Freud was one of her lifelong dreams. Then it was the painter himself who sought her out in 2002. Nine months later, during which Kate posed at Freud's house every weekday from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m., the Naked Portrait 2002 was created. Later, in 2005, the painting was auctioned at Christie's and fetched $6.5 million, a record for Freud's work. However, the work was not the only achievement of this special moment. Thank you to Freud, Kate says, she learned discipline, as the painter demanded absolute punctuality, but she also received a very special gift: Freud tattooed a pair of swallows on the lower part of the supermodel's back. «I mean, it's an original Freud. I wonder how much a collector would pay for that? A few million?». Said Moss, and now we may know a little more about the tattoo and the rest of her history with Freud.
