Here is the trailer for Barbie the movie
New images and the posters reveal that the cast will also include Dua Lipa and Helen Mirren
April 4th, 2023
As the July 21, 2023 release date approaches, details about Barbie the Movie are also piling up. After the faces of leads Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, a few stolen images from the set showing super pink Mattel-style sets and flashy costumes, a cryptic first teaser and rumours that reveal little about the actual content of the Greta Gerwig-directed project, we can get another glimpse of what we'll see on the big screen thanks to the release of the official posters. The images give us a comprehensive look at the entire cast and reveal names we did not know were part of the film until now, such as Dua Lipa's. Judging by her look, which is all shades of blue and light blue from her wig to her shell bra, the singer will play a mermaid and is also rumoured to be singing songs for the soundtrack.
Other familiar faces include Emma Mackey from Sex Education, aka Barbie, the Nobel Prize-winning physicist; Nicola Coughlan from Bridgerton as Barbie, the diplomat; Issa Rae from Insecure as Barbie, the president; Hari Nef as Barbie, the doctor; comedian Will Ferrell is the CEO of a toy company; Helen Mirren is the narrator; America Ferrera from Ugly Betty will be a human; Juno star Michael Cera will be a certain Allen; and Ncuti Gatwa and Simu Liu will play the roles of two Ken men.
A trailer for Barbie will also be released in the coming hours, which will hopefully give more insight into the plot. The synopsis released by the production so far is somewhat cryptic: "Barbie gets kicked out of Barbieland because she’s not perfect enough, a bit eccentric and doesn’t fit in. She then goes on an adventure in the real world and by the time she returns to Barbieland to save it, she has gained the realization that perfection comes on the inside, not the outside, and that the key to happiness is belief in oneself, free of the obligation to adhere to some unattainable standard of perfection".
Unfortunately, the new teaser trailer released in these hours gives us further clues. In the tracking shot that alternates to 1950s music, we see a very pink and "plastic" country where everyone is named Barbie or Ken, has a perpetual smile on their face, and seems to be living in a Grease-style musical. Then something happens and Barbie played by Margot Robbie gets into her convertible, with Ken/Gosling in the back seat, in search of new adventures in what, as anticipated, is the real world. What will happen here? We hope to find out soon!
