History of beach books
According to The New Yorker, the summer novel emerged in the Victorian era, parallel to the spread of the holiday culture. The phenomenon of the beach book, often associated with gender stereotypes, becomes so popular thanks to the falling cost of book production and becomes a big business opportunity for publishers. Paper books still have their appeal and on the beach they tell us something about ourselves like an accessory.
