The best celebrity breakups of 2023

To paraphrase an old soap opera: Celebrities cry too. They fall in love and break up. Sometimes the love stories end in mutual understanding and even become friendships; other times they end in tears, legal disputes, accusations of infidelity and slander. The year 2023 was also characterised by many famous break-ups, from Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro going their separate ways one step before marriage, to Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas announcing they were no longer a couple and leaving their respective fans stunned.

G-Club has selected the top celebrity couples who broke up in 2023. Which one made you shed the most tears?

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas

Until recently, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner were considered one of the most solid and loving couples in Hollywood. Then in September last year, their divorce was confirmed. Between a joint statement of separation on Instagram, lots of rumours and a legal battle for custody of their daughters, the love story didn't end in the best way. The relationship had started with an exchange of messages on IG. in 2019, Joe and Sophie then flew to Las Vegas for a wedding, followed by a more elaborate ceremony with many guests in France, including his brothers and Maisie Williams, the Arya Stark from Game of Thrones (Sophie's sister on set) as maid of honour. In the four years they were married, they had two daughters, Willa and Delphine. Then the magic that had brought them together faded.

Bella Hadid and Marc Kalman

Bella Hadid and Marc Kalman were spotted together back in 2020, but they kept their relationship a secret until it was publicly confirmed in July 2021. Things seemed to be going so well between the two that Kalman was reportedly planning to propose to Bella in the autumn. Then, last spring, the split was announced. The reasons for this were not given, but according to rumours, the causes were attributed to both the pressure the 26-year-old faces as a celebrity and her health problems. This is a great pity, as it seems that the model and the art director were very much in love, at least if the leaked pictures and insider information are to be believed. In any case, their relationship fell apart and the two decided to end it by mutual consent. Since then, Bella has not been spotted with any other love interest and seems to be focussing on her health. We are keeping our fingers crossed for Bella and wish her happiness - alone or with whomever she wants.

Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro

Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro said goodbye one step away from marriage. One of Generation Z's favourite musical power couples exchanged their last "beso" after three years of dating and a marriage proposal, surprising fans who had already imagined the Bizcochito star in a wedding dress. Although rumours of infidelity were circulating, which were denied by both, it seems that Rosalía and her former partner broke up without rancour and simply acknowledged that their relationship had come to an end. Rosalía currently has a new love story with Jeremy Allen White, star of The Bear.

Dominic Fike and Hunter Schafer

For fans of Euphoria, it almost seemed like a dream that Dominic Fike and Hunter Schafer fell in love. The love affair between the two began during the filming of the second season of the series, in which he plays Elliot and she plays Jules, and lasted for about four months. Speaking about the end of the relationship, Fike said that the feeling he had for Hunter turned into a real addiction: "I realised that I can't be alone anymore, that I can only write songs when she's around, and I know that's not right for me." And then he added: "I'm the kind of person," he concluded, "who loves being in a couple so I can share everything with my partner. But now it's time to figure out how to build a healthy relationship."

When the two appeared together on the red carpet at Cannes 2023, no one expected it. Dua Lipa and Romain Gavras announced to the rest of the world that they were a couple and spent the next few months together, but the relationship didn't last long. According to rumours, the reason for this was that Dua Lipa was too focused on her career. And how could it be otherwise, considering the star has a new album planned and will release her first as an actress in February, titled Argylle, an action film starring Henry Cavill. On the other hand, Romain might feel warned, because back in Houdini "I'm not here long. Catch me or I'm leaving."
