By acquiring Fox, Disney also acquired the rights to The Devil Wears Prada, the cult 2006 film starring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt set in the ruthless world of fashion magazine publishing. What does this mean? It means a sequel is in the works, and confirmation has just arrived.
The Devil Wears Prada 2: Is Meryl Streep in it? What we know so far
It's still unknown if director David Frankle will return. What we do know is that the screenplay will be written by Aline Brosh McKenna, who wrote the original film and successful series like Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. The original film is based on the novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger, but there's no confirmation that the sequel will be based on the novel's continuation, titled Revenge Wears Prada, published in 2013. And the cast? Meryl Streep will return (and how could it be otherwise? She was the heart and soul of the whole operation) together with and Emily Blunt, but there's complete silence about the rest of the cast. We'll see!
Our speculations on The Devil Wears Prada sequel
In hindsight, maybe we could have seen it coming. At the SAG Awards, the three lead actresses took the stage together, and the audience erupted in excitement over the reunion. The whole world was talking about them and the much-desired continuation of their story. What did Andy do after choosing to leave the field and pursue a calmer and quieter life? Is she still with her unpleasant boyfriend? How is Miranda Priestly doing? Has she softened up? How does Runway survive in a vastly changed editorial landscape and cope with the rise of digital luxury giants?
