What can we expect from the sequel of The Devil Wears Prada’s fashion?
We tried to imagine the wardrobe of Miranda, Emily and Andy in the new film

March 4th, 2025
Nearly twenty years after the release of David Frankel's The Devil Wears Prada, the film remains the ultimate fusion of cinema and fashion. Naturally, the story's depiction of a fashion magazine — seemingly Vogue and the role of actress Meryl Streep as editor-in-chief Anna Wintour — facilitates such a claim. But mentions of luxury labels from the likes of Oscar de la Renta, Valentino, Chanel and Jimmy Choos have put the film on the radar of fashionistas everywhere.
And that's not likely to change any time soon. With last year’s announcement of a Disney sequel exploring the decline of print media, the rise of luxury groups, and the impact of social media and the ever-evolving digital landscape on the industry, predictions are already being made. What will happen? Who will appear? And most importantly, what will the characters wear?
Miranda Priestly returns in the The Devil's Wears Prada sequel
On 10 July 2024, actress Meryl Streep shared an image of her infamous character Miranda Priestly on Instagram with the caption 'Miranda will return'. With the harsh editor on her way back to our screens, it's safe to say that aside from her iconic Prada frame bag, her outfits will retain the elegance and austerity she has always exuded. Her commitment to exuding rigor and sophistication will continue to impress — perhaps in suits and ladies' suits as seen in the Fall 2024 collections of labels such as Tom Ford, Michael Kors, Givenchy and Chanel Fall 2024, and in drama coats from the likes of Balenciaga Fall 2022, Gabriela Hearst Fall 2024, Christian Siriano Fall 2023 and Miu Miu Fall 2024.
Emily in charge: a style that reflects power
As for Emily, the sassy assistant who, according to Puck editor Lauren Sherman, is now an executive at a power luxury group, will have her sartorial repertoire transformed. From assistant to executive, her power shifts — and it will likely be seen through her looks. To represent her authority, she will be seen wearing some of the brands of the moment — like Miu Miu, Saint Laurent, Versace and Bottega Veneta. Seeking to combine the sophistication that comes with her position with her edgy attitude, garments such as Miu Miu Fall 2024 chic but bold colored dresses, Alberta Ferretti and Dior Fall 2024 sleek sets, Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2024 flirty coats, Valentino Fall 2024 monochrome black collection, Tom Ford Spring 2024 see-through dresses, and Ferragamo Spring 2024 gowns with eccentric belts — and a wide range of accessories — will likely be part of her wardrobe.
Andy Sachs: a comeback in cerulean?
What about Andy Sachs? While Anne Hathaway's return has not yet been confirmed, hopes are high that she will be seen again in cerulean. Although Andy has left the fashion world at the end of the 2006 movie, fashion hasn’t left her — how could it? With nothing stopping her from returning to the fashion scene in the sequel, or perhaps working in a legacy media far away from the industry, she retains her fashion sense: back or not, her style will combine practicality with subtle finesse. Labels such as Tory Burch, Prada and Tod’s will all be part of her closet — as will the legendary Chanel boots she wore during her Runway days. While not everything in cinema and fashion can be predicted — who would have predicted Sherk 5 next year and the emergence of Walmart Birkins knock-offs? — one thing is for sure, The Devil Wears Prada 2 will put fashion back on our screens. So everybody, gird your loins!
