Dr Martens returns to the '90s with Buzz and Elphie

If you grew up in the 90s or love the alternative aesthetics of that decade, then you know that Dr. Martens shoes are among the most iconic accessories of the grunge era. Worn by all the stars of the time, from Madonna to Gwen Stefani, for their unique mix of coolness, rebellious spirit, and comfort. It’s no surprise, then, that the first 2025 collection from the brand, called Buzz, is inspired by the nineties and includes platform models in leopard print, leather, and suede that recall those launched by Dr. Martens over thirty years ago.

The star of this latest drop is Buzz, the new silhouette described as “bold, bouncy, and barrel-edged, with bubble branding to boot”. It is a 5-eyelet shoe with laces and a double strap, stitched with contours that follow the curvature of the sole and decorated with rubberized bubble logo patches. Buzz features a padded ankle collar for extra comfort and the signature yellow welt stitching. Dr. Martens designer Bridie Husband describes it even better: "The Buzz has a sporty, streetwear aesthetic that our customers haven’t seen in recent seasons. We’ve seen a big shift in women’s footwear trends, deeply rooted in the ‘90s and nostalgia for a past era—it’s the perfect time to bring back elements of such a sought-after archive shoe. The platform sole provides a sense of elevation and confidence, and we’ve added padding for extra comfort. We’re really excited to see how women react to the new style and make it their own."

Available in a variety of textures and colors, including leather, suede, leopard print, brown, pink, and classic black, Buzz is not the only shoe in the collection. Dr. Martens introduces another versatile, cool, and comfortable model inspired by the ‘90s: Elphie. This is a ballerina with a street character, featuring a pointed shape with long wrap-around laces and a buckle strap. Like Buzz, Elphie also comes in different variations, including a standout model made in pink Shift leather with a pearlescent finish and laces to tie around the ankle, perfect for those who love the coquette aesthetic.
